Save the Ocoee (2018 season)

Ocoee rafting was in danger, and the community reached out.

More than just Ocoee rafting, Outdoor Adventure Rafting is involved in the conservation of the Ocoee River, and dedicated to preserving the positive influence the river has on the surrounding area and people.

The Ocoee River was under contract with TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) for 35 years, and that contract ended. A lot has changed in 35 years, and by the end of the 2018 rafting season this contract ran out. The outfitters had been talking with TVA for the last eight years trying to come up with a new contract.  OROA hired a firm to negotiate on our behalf and over nine months we worked with the TVA to come up with a reasonable solution. With a critical time frame endangering rafting for everyone, a compromise was found and a new contract negotiated. It could not have happened without the local community, raft companies, and most importantly, you, reaching out and voicing your opinions. They were heard, and the Ocoee will run for years to come.
