How Your Guided Tubing Trip Works

Meet at the Outpost

Check in, grab your gear, and board the shuttle for a short bus ride to the river put-in.

Float the Lower Ocoee

Drift down the gentle Lower Ocoee with scenic views and plenty of swimming. For tubing trips, a guide in a kayak will accompany each group to keep everyone safe and on course.

Return to the Outpost

The trip finishes back here at OAR at our private ramp, so you can walk straight back to your car or your cabin to get a campfire started.

Who can come?

All Ages, All Group Sizes

The Lower Ocoee Float is one of the only river adventures that truly works for everyone. No minimum age, no experience required, and no upper limit on group size.

Younger children are welcome in the raft, where a guide does the steering and little ones stay better contained. Children must weigh at least 50 lbs to use OAR life jackets — if your child is smaller, bring their own properly fitted vest and they’re good to go with a parent or guardian present.

Not a strong swimmer? That’s no problem. The Lower Ocoee runs Class I–II water — gentle currents, small ripples, and nothing that requires any swimming ability. Our guides are on the water with every group to keep things safe and relaxed.

Whether you’re a family of four or a group of a hundred, OAR can handle it. The Lower Ocoee float is a favorite add-on for church retreats, summer camps, scout troops, corporate outings, and family reunions — any group that wants time on the water without the intensity of whitewater.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ocoee River Floats

Everything you need to plan your relaxing float trip on the Ocoee.

Both options float the same section of the lower Ocoee on Class I–II water, last about the same time (~1.5 hours total), and are fully guided. The difference is your ride. On the tubing trip, each guest floats in their own personal tube with a guide in a kayak accompanying every group of 10. On the raft trip, everyone rides together in a large inflatable raft steered by an OAR guide — a better fit for very young children, elderly guests, large groups who want to stay together, or anyone who just wants a more relaxed, lounging experience. A raft provides room for snacks, drinks, and music as you float.  Large groups may mix and match tubes and rafts.

There is no minimum age for either option. The only requirement is that your child must be able to fit into an OAR life jacket, which generally means at least 50 lbs. If your child is smaller than that, you are welcome to bring a properly fitted personal life jacket and they can join the raft trip with a parent or guardian.
None at all. The lower Ocoee runs Class I–II — gentle currents and small ripples, nothing that requires swimming ability or prior river experience. Our guides are on the water with every group to keep things safe and fun from start to finish.

The full outing is about 1.5 hours from check-in to return. That includes a short shuttle bus ride to the river put-in, roughly 1 hour on the water floating the lower Ocoee, and the trip back to our outpost at our private take-out ramp. Time on the water depends on the current, so be prepared for it to go slightly faster or slower than average. Plan your day around about 2 hours total to be comfortable.

Wear clothes you can move in and shoes that will not come off — sandals with straps or sneakers work well. Plan on getting wet. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap, and a water bottle. Leave valuables in your vehicle. OAR provides all life jackets and safety equipment.
On the tube trip — yes, expect to get wet. You are sitting directly in the river in a tube. On the lower Ocoee raft trip, guests typically stay drier since you are seated in a larger boat on calmer water. Either way, dress for it and leave anything you’d rather not soak in the car.
Absolutely — the lower Ocoee float is one of OAR’s most popular options for large groups. We have no upper limit on group size and regularly run church retreats, summer camps, scout troops, corporate outings, and family reunions on this section. Groups of 10 or more may also qualify for group discounts.
Every OAR tubing trip is fully guided. For tube trips, one of our guides in a kayak accompanies every 10 guests on the water to keep the group safe and on course. For the raft option, a certified OAR guide steers the boat throughout. You are never floating unaccompanied.

Ready to trade the float for some rapids? The Middle Ocoee is Tennessee’s most popular whitewater run — Class III–IV rapids, 3.5 hours on the water, and OAR guides who know every wave. Book a whitewater rafting trip
